Dear Friend,

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation recently announced a new initiative to expand the scope of adult care at Foundation-accredited care centers nationwide.

Through its Program for Adult Care Excellence (PACE), the Foundation will invest approximately $5 million to recruit and train 40 additional adult care providers and fellows. The program will help care centers keep pace with the growing demand for adult care.
"The need for enhanced resources to treat the adult CF population is a direct result of our success in extending the life span of people with the disease," said Preston W. Campbell, III, M.D., executive vice president for medical affairs of the CF Foundation.

In 1955, when the Foundation was established, children with cystic fibrosis rarely lived long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of advances in CF research and care, the predicted median survival age is 37 and 43 percent of people with CF are age 18 or older.

A recent article in The Baltimore Sun highlights the growing number of adults with CF. Click here to read the article.
